Our Beginning
Because of its distance from the center of town, the West District School continued to operate long after Scituate’s other districts were absorbed into the new Hatherly and Jenkins Elementary schools. It was not until 1918 that the one-room schools house was finally closed, its few remaining pupils being transported instead to Hatherly. In 1921 the old building was turned over to the citizens of the West End for community uses…The building survives today as the home of the Mount Hope Improvement Society.
